The School of Criminal Justice, Rutgers University invites applications for Lecturer teaching positions in the undergraduate and MA programs during the Spring 2026 Semester.

Successful applicants will develop and instruct on one or more of the following topics and course levels/locations:
Undergraduate courses at Rutgers-Newark: Delinquency & Juvenile Justice (in person), Contemporary Policing (in person), Crime in Different Cultures (in person), and Sex, Sexuality, Crime & Justice (in person).

Undergraduate courses at Community College of Morris: Data Analysis (online), Violent Crime (in person), and Mass Incarceration (in person).

Undergraduate courses (in person) at NJ-STEP affiliated correctional facilities in northern and southern New Jersey; Pursuit of Justice, Inequality, Criminal Justice Research Methods, Data Analysis in Criminal Justice, various Criminal Justice and Justice Studies electives or other Topics in Justice Studies courses.

MA courses at Rutgers-Newark: Financial Crime II (TBD Format), GIS from Crime Mapping (in person) and Place-Based Community Crime Prevention (TBD Format).

Instructors shall prepare and submit course syllabi, meet and provide pedagogically appropriate instruction during assigned class times, provide timely student feedback, respond to student emails, adhere to grade submission policies and deadlines, and if the option is available, attend an orientation. In classes that have a research focus, instructors shall follow appropriate Institutional Review Board policies and procedures to ensure the protection of human subjects. NJ-STEP appointments teaching in NJ correctional facilities also require an additional background check through New Jersey Department of Corrections and a brief online training.

Course appointments on the Rutgers Newark campus and the Rutgers off-campus site located at the County College of Morris report to the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice; course appointments at NJ-STEP affiliated correctional facilities in northern and southern New Jersey report to the Executive Director of the NJ-STEP program.

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Masters or Juris Doctorate Required.
  • Doctorate Preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level.
  • Applicants with comparable degrees from accredited institutions may also be considered. Prior teaching experience is also preferred.
