Summary:
The Rusche College of Business and the Schlief School of Accountancy seek to identify an outstanding faculty member in Business Law who demonstrates excellence in teaching, professional engagement, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and continued development of the business law curriculum, support student success, and enhance the academic mission of the Rusche College of Business and the Schlief School of Accountancy. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with broad expertise in business law and related legal areas that support undergraduate and graduate business education. The successful candidate will help strengthen the college's reputation through high-quality instruction, meaningful engagement with students, and contributions to curricular and programmatic initiatives. Appointment may be made at the rank of Lecturer I, Lecturer II, or Lecturer III, depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and record of achievement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Evidence of, or potential for, effective teaching

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Recent active practice of law.
  • College-level teaching experience.

Job Description:
This is a full-time, nine-month, faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.

Qualifications:
Master's degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required.

Practical experience sufficient to teach at the university level, through teaching or profession, is required. Experience teaching at the university level is preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
  • May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.

Non-essential Job Functions:
  • Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
  • May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.
  • May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
