Position Overview:
As the Lead Staff Attorney at A Non-Profit Organization, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing our legal services initiatives, providing comprehensive support to our clients, including will preparation, estate planning, and more. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful work while making a difference in the lives of others. The position reports to the Board Chair.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and direction to the legal services initiatives
  • Screen clients and assess legal needs
  • Oversee the preparation of simple or complex wills, living wills, powers of attorney, and testamentary trusts
  • Facilitate provision of prompt, reliable and quality legal services through direct client representation, consultation, advocacy or referral
  • Ensure that clients receive compassionate support and guidance throughout the legal process
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to address client needs and provide holistic support
  • Train and monitor volunteer attorneys and para-professionals providing services at LHT
  • Meet conditions and requirements for compliance with grants and funding
  • Lead education through the public outreach program of training sessions and speaking engagements
  • Lead the administration and maintenance of appropriate legal and administrative records
  • Ensure successful implementation of the Quality Management Plan and Quality Improvement activities as adopted by the Board of Directors
  • Assist with routine office management
  • Stay informed about relevant legal regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance
  • Represent A Non-Profit Organization in the performance of all duties to help ensure the achievement of the agency's mission

Qualifications:
  • Active license to practice law in the state of Texas
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Leadership and management skills with prior experience in a leadership role (minimum 2 years preferred)
  • Experience with estate planning, Social Security denial appeals and housing issues (minimum 2 years preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards clients
  • Proficiency in legal software applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with legal aid or non-profit organizations preferred
