About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Product Counsel to join our global legal team. You will be the primary legal architect behind our next generation of high profile product launches, at an exciting period in Trustly's global growth story.

You will be embedded within the business, product and engineering teams to build consumer & partner centric offerings from the ground up.

You will navigate the complex intersection of financial regulation, privacy, consumer protection, IP, marketing and emerging AI regulations in order to assist the business in launching innovative products that deliver strategic objectives whilst remaining compliant.

What You'll Do:
  • You will work alongside a variety of stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing/comms, GTM & commercial, legal and compliance, in order to launch compliant products that are a joy to use. You will advise from the beginning of product planning right through to launch and ongoing iterations.
  • You will advise on a broad range of issues including consumer protection, financial regulation, AI regulation, privacy laws, intellectual property, contractual obligations, marketing laws. You will be responsible for formulating creative solutions to ensure compliance whilst delivering strategic business objectives. You will collaborate with Trustly's global in-house and external legal & compliance experts in order to achieve this.
  • You will develop comprehensive training & playbooks on Trustly's product suite, establishing repeatable frameworks, that results in the scalability of legal advice across new product launches.
  • You will partner with Trustly's Privacy & Compliance team in order to implement best practices with the product and engineering team, including privacy & compliance by design.
  • You will negotiate and/or draft new terms and conditions, contractual and partnership agreements relating to product launches and partner with Privacy on the development of UX disclosures and Privacy Policy updates.

Who You Are:
  • Strong academic background, JD, and active member in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years of experience, including at least 2 years at a consumer facing technology company in a product counsel or generalist role.
  • Experience launching consumer fintech, card, or payments products (knowledge of FCRA, TILA, Fair Lending Laws, and other relevant laws pertaining to consumer protection in the context of financial services & payments is required).
  • A working understanding of global privacy laws is desirable.
  • Tech-savvy with an interest in emerging global AI frameworks and fintech/payments.
  • Proven ability to partner with a wide variety of stakeholders but a particular focus on strong collaboration with product, engineering and privacy and compliance teams.
  • Entrepreneurial & creative by nature, has a bias for action, but is empathetic in dealing with multiple stakeholders and driving issues to a resolution.
  • A strong ability to balance risk whilst achieving business objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex legal issues in simple terms and report issues to multiple different stakeholders.

$255,000 - $275,000 a year
