Description:
Job Summary:Reporting directly to a director, responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and handling cases that qualify for participation in Specialty Court programs, such as Pre-Trial Intervention, Veteran's Court, and DWI Court, as well as training and developing prosecutors assigned to intake and justice courts.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Coordinates, supervises, and assists with internal training for the prosecutors assigned to the various specialty court programs, to include managing all necessary court coverage; provides court coverage as needed
- Works with judges, Community Supervision and Corrections Department, and other program stakeholders to further the objectives of each of the specialty court programs
- Monitors the progress of cases through the specialty courts and provides updates to the appropriate supervising director
- Monitors the functionality of, and makes recommendations for improvements to, the specialty court programs
- Tracks necessary metrics for the various specialty court programs
- Assists with office reporting requirements for the Office of the Attorney General, and other related reporting needs
- Performs case intake, case screening, and follows-up on investigations to include reviewing police reports and evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies
- Drafts investigative requests for additional evidence, makes charging decisions, and files charging instruments
- Represents the State in the respective County Courts at Law, ensuring cases have been appropriately prepared for each docket, working towards resolving the cases while in court, discussing plea options and other case needs with defense attorneys, working alongside probation officers, filing any necessary court documents, and providing information to the Court upon request
- Trains and assists intake prosecutors with case filing decisions, charging strategy, and drafting processes
- Prepares for and represents the State in contested court hearings, to include reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, preparing trial motions, responding to defense motions, preparing trial exhibits, and conducting the hearing (i.e., jury selection, opening statements, witness examination and closing arguments)
- Trains and assists prosecutors assigned to service in justice courts to represent the State, including in plea negotiations, hearings, and trials
- Performs legal research by reading statutes and codes, analytical books, online case research, and specialized practice guides
- Drafts legal documents such as motions, memoranda, and briefs
- Communicates with county personnel, elected officials, judges, defense attorneys, victims and witnesses of crime, law enforcement agencies, and the general public on behalf of the County Attorney's Office
- Attends all meetings and trainings, as required

Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Jurisprudence from An Accredited Law School and Three (3) Years of Experience as A County or District Attorney Office, City Attorney, or Other Governmental Attorney with Experience in Areas Related to The Job Duties; or Four (4) Years of Specialty Court Experience as An Attorney in Relevant Areas
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Lexis Nexis, and Westlaw
Licenses and Certifications:
Required:
State Bar of Texas
Required Within Thirty (30) Days of Employment
Valid Driver's License
Required Within Six (6) Months of Employment
- Texas Crime Information Center (tcic) Certification
- Criminal Justice Information Services (cjis) Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working Knowledge of Odyssey, Jabber, and Digital Evidence Management System (dems)
- Experience Representing the State in A Prosecutor's Office or Other Governmental Agency
- Criminal Trial Experience
