The Opportunity:
TrueCar is looking for an experienced Lead Attorney, Regulatory, and Compliance to join the company's Legal team. The Legal Regulatory and Compliance Lead will collaborate directly with senior leadership across the company with respect to the automotive industry and regulatory considerations when business decisions are made. This position requires a significant understanding of the automotive and digital landscape, the impact and prevailing interpretation of applicable government regulations, and the ability to analyze data and influence decisions supporting TrueCar's business objectives.

This is a hybrid role that will require as-needed in-office work at our Santa Monica, CA headquarters.

How you'll drive TrueCar's success:
  • Deliver industry updates relevant to actual or potential changes to the regulatory landscape at TrueCar, its dealer or OEM customers, or the “Affinity Partners” for which TrueCar operates white-labeled car buying programs.
  • Manage litigation, claims, and disputes by coordinating with external counsel.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for external legal partners, regulators, and industry groups.
  • Monitor emerging legal and regulatory trends that could impact the automotive industry and bring awareness to leadership.
  • Analyze data, review trends, and make recommendations that help leaders mitigate risk and guide company direction, including but not limited to recommendations related to consumer-facing and dealer-facing product content and functionality.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Support and liaise with other departments, including Product, Technology, Accounting, Finance, and Dealer, to spot and resolve issues
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment

Your Expertise:
  • J.D. with excellent academic credentials from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to the California state bar or eligible for Registered In-House Counsel designation
  • Proven experience at a top-tier law firm or in-house transactional experience with an automotive, internet, or technology company
  • Established relationships and ability to build new relationships with key industry stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of state automotive brokering and dealer regulations, FTC, and other federal and state-level advertising rules, including the California CARS Act, consumer privacy laws such as the CCPA and CPRA, and other regulatory requirements relevant to the automotive industry and consumer protection
  • Outstanding business judgment; ability to assess and anticipate risks
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with limited supervision, while also knowing when to engage with other members of the legal team or company stakeholders

Base salary range: $155,000 - $200,000
