The Lead Attorney provides legal counsel, advice and support to the enterprise's commercial mortgage lending and real estate teams as well as to other business units in connection with both day-to-day activities and operations and special projects. The incumbent serves as legal support for one or more divisions within the company and provides legal counsel to the supervising attorney, A Mutual Insurance Company, and business partners. This position is located at the A Mutual Insurance Company home office in Lincoln, Nebraska, but is classified as a hybrid position.

This is a hybrid role working partially in-office and partially from home.

What you do
  • Assists supervising attorney with a variety of legal tasks associated with commercial mortgage lending transactions including, but not limited to, drafting, editing and negotiation of commercial loan documents, reviewing and analyzing ALTA surveys, title insurance commitments and other ancillary documentation as well as preparing written responses and recommendations.
  • Provides all necessary legal services in support of the enterprise's commercial real estate leasing, acquisition, and disposition activities as well as joint venture arrangements and mineral interest asset classes, including oil and gas leasing.
  • Handles legal tasks in support of other business units including, but not limited to: research, analysis, drafting of legal documents, and preparing written communications and opinions.
  • Provides counsel, legal research, and recommendations on various issues; researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, and court decisions in complex areas of the law.
  • Acts as a support on major projects and initiatives and collaborates with other departments to make legal recommendations.
  • Assists and advises on assigned division, other business units, and departments as needed with compliance efforts relative to applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Performs legal risk analysis and communicates legal opinions to business leaders.
  • Establishes professional working relationships with law department colleagues, the executive office and business leaders.
  • Demonstrates outstanding written and oral communication skills and ability to work both in teams and independently.

What you bring:
  • Juris Doctorate degree required
  • 3-5 years of legal experience required
  • Ability to conduct electronic legal research is required
  • Must be a bar licensed attorney in at least one state with the ability to timely motion into or otherwise register with Nebraska if not Nebraska licensed.
