What You'll Do:
  • This position will report to the General Counsel
  • Supervise and manage pre-litigation, Chapter 558, and litigation matters in all Divisions, including supervising outside counsel, directing case strategy, reviewing motions and briefs, reviewing case filings, reviewing budgets and invoices, and advising Divisions regarding case updates and liability risk
  • Coordinate with and advise the General Counsel on litigation and pre-litigation matters
  • Support day-to-day litigation case management (e.g., discovery, factual investigations, litigation holds, insurance reporting and coordination, case monitoring, third-party subpoena responses, attending mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and depositions)
  • Assist Divisions with customer care and warranty legal issues, draft settlement agreements and releases, communicate and negotiate with opposing counsel
  • Handle regulatory agency complaints
  • Represent A Home Builder legally in interactions and disputes with customers, real estate and construction contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Review and draft trade partner agreements, vendor agreements, construction lien law documentation and procedures and insurance requirements

What you bring:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school either Magna or Suma Cum Laude
  • Must have passed the Florida Bar Exam and have an Active license to practice law in FL
  • 5 to 10 years' experience in the practice of commercial litigation and construction litigation at a top law firm with proven representation of homebuilders and land developers and/or in-house with large homebuilding and land development company
  • Proficient knowledge of legal issues specific to the homebuilding, land development and construction industry
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate, demonstrate diplomacy, and interact well with senior business and legal leadership
  • Highly disciplined with the ability to assess risk, work with limited supervision, and provide timely, strategic and practical legal advice in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • A keen understanding of local cultures, business practices, laws, and governmental/regulatory systems
  • Organization skills and experience setting priorities, problem-solving, and multi-tasking
  • Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills, including attention to detail, as well as the ability to solve problems in an efficient, business-friendly manner in time-pressured situations
  • Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise creative solutions and strategies for resolution
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to professionalism and integrity
  • Willingness to take ownership of projects and think proactively
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work, prioritize appropriately, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Be willing to travel upon request to various company offices and locations within Florida, Texas, Arizona, and North Carolina, if needed
  • Must also have, or be able to get, passport and be able to travel internationally (Canada), if needed
