Job Description:
Prior knowledge of immigration law is helpful, though not necessary; however, strong research and writing skills are required. Interns become familiar with the Immigration and Nationality Act, the Code of Federal Regulations, and immigration case law set forth by the Board of Immigration Appeals and the federal courts. Typical assignments include drafting decisions on asylum applications and motions to reopen immigration proceedings, as well as researching and writing legal memoranda on the immigration implications of certain criminal convictions. For each assignment, interns are able to work directly with Immigration Judges. Telework is not available for interns; all work will be performed on site at the San Francisco Immigration Court. All interns work under the supervision of one or more staff attorneys. The Court will accommodate students interested in completing the internship for academic credit.

Qualifications:
All interns at the Court must (1) be United States citizens; (2) be enrolled in law school at the time of their application and their internship; and (3) successfully complete an FBI background check before beginning their internships.
