What You'll Do in This Position
Acting under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Career Development, the Career Advisor plays a critical role in providing innovative, comprehensive, and individualized career planning and advising services for law students.

This role requires a deep commitment to knowing each assigned student personally and working diligently to help them maximize their career and leadership potential. The Career Advisor also represents the Law School to legal employers nationwide, cultivating professional networks and promoting BYU Law's outstanding graduates.

The ideal candidate will combine professional experience in law or legal education with strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

What you'll do in this position:
  • Provide one-on-one career counseling, resume and application reviews, and coaching on networking, interviewing, and professional skills.
  • Build strong relationships with students, supporting their individual career and leadership goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain employer and alumni networks to generate job opportunities for students.
  • Assist with on-campus interviews, job fairs, networking programs, and other recruiting events.
  • Research legal markets and employment trends to provide expert, tailored advice.
  • Develop and update career development resources, including online and print materials.
  • Collect and analyze employment data and support reporting for accreditation and professional organizations.
  • Foster a welcoming, professional, and student-focused environment in Career Development.

What Qualifies You for This Role:
Required:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • 3–5 years of experience in legal practice, legal recruiting, career services, or legal education.
  • Commitment to the mission and AIMS of BYU Law School and Brigham Young University.
  • Dedication to the success and growth of each student.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to:
  • Counsel and inspire law students.
  • Build strong employer relationships.
  • Write persuasively to prospective employers and external partners.
  • Ability to innovate and find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel for recruiting trips and conferences.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred:
  • Prior management or leadership experience.
  • Prior career advisement experience

Typical Starting Pay: $30.50 - $39.75/hr
