Description:
The Law Clerk serves as a professional legal assistant to our Common Pleas Judges and visiting Senior Judges in the 17th Judicial District (Snyder/ Union). The Law Clerk will be conducting legal research, reviewing filings, and drafting opinions and orders. The role also involves assisting during court proceedings and ensuring the efficient and timely handling of matters before the Court.Job Duties:
- Applies comprehensive knowledge of Pennsylvania civil and criminal law, including constitutional, statutory, case law, procedural rules, and rules of evidence.
- Conducts legal research using online platforms and reference materials; assists the Judge in researching and analyzing complex legal issues before, during, and after proceedings.
- Assists Senior visiting Judges
- Builds effective working relationships with the Judge and Court Administration staff.
- Communicates with attorneys, litigants, court personnel, and the public regarding docket‑related procedural matter.
- Maintains organized court calendars, tracks pending cases, and keeps the Judge updated on case status and deadlines.
- Drafts opinions, orders, and memoranda in a clear, logical, and Judge‑appropriate style.
- Reviews and evaluates pleadings, motions, briefs, and other filings, and discusses them with the Judge to determine appropriate courses of action and support timely resolution.

Minimum Requirements:
- Juris doctorate (J.D.) degree
- Admission or actively seeking admission, to the Pennsylvania Bar Association to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
