This Position Is Located in The Interstate Stream Commission (isc), Office of General Counsel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. the Legal Intern Is a 6-Month/180-Day Internship Opportunity for A Current Law School Student or Recent Law School Graduate.
The Isc Office of General Counsel Is Responsible for Representing the State of New Mexico Through the Interstate Stream Commission in Administration of Interstate Stream Compacts, Administrative, State, and Federal Court Court Litigation, and Transactional Work Involving Issues of Water and Environmental Law, Including the Endangered Species Act, and The National Environmental Policy Act. the Isc Office of General Counsel Provides Advice and Representation to The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission in All Legal Proceedings and On Transactional Matters to Ensure Compliance with Laws, Rules, and Regulations. the Isc Office of General Counsel Provides Support and Advice for Technical Personnel and Coordinates Contract Work as Needed.

Working Conditions:
Work Is Performed in An Office Setting with Exposure to Visual/video Display Terminal (vdt) and Extensive Personal Computer and Phone Usage. Some Sitting, Standing, Bending and Reaching May Be Required.

This Position Will:
- Provide Research Assistance Support to Managing Attorney and Isc Staff Attorneys.
- Conduct Legal Research as Directed Using Online Resources and Other Pertinent Sources.
- Prepare Legal Memoranda, Summaries, Reports, Abstracts, Briefings, and Summaries Based on Research.
- Obtain, Review and Analyze Legal and Historical Documents Pertaining to Specific Matters Such as Deeds, Water Rights Files, Hydrological Reports, Tax Records, Historical Photographs, Legislative Records, Etc.
- Attend Meetings and Field Visits as Necessary.

Ideal Candidate:
The Ideal Candidate Is a Current Law School Student or Recent Law School Graduate with The Following Experience:
- Experience Conducting Legal Research
- Experience Preparing Legal Memoranda
