Position Description:Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi is seeking two part-time law clerks (10 hours per week) to work directly under Legal Aid immigration attorneys to assist with client representation, legal research and document preparation.
Responsibilities for this position includes
- Conducting legal research
- Drafting memos
- Participating in client intakes and interviews
- Case preparation for affirmative filings with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
- Assisting with preparation for immigration hearings at immigration court.
- Participate in outreach and education efforts.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled at an accredited law school as a 3L or 2L at the beginning of the internship
- Located on Oahu
- Demonstrable commitment to social justice and public interest
- Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with diverse team of co-workers.
- Culturally sensitive and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations.
- Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), strongly preferred.
Compensation: $22.94 - $24.80/hour commensurate with experience. Paid Vacation and Sick Leave.
