Position Overview:
At Melone Hatley, P.C., our Law Clerks play an essential role in supporting our attorneys and clients by providing high-quality legal research, drafting, and case preparation. As a Law Clerk, you'll gain hands-on experience in family law and estate planning while working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. This role is ideal for law students or recent graduates seeking to build their legal skills and contribute to meaningful client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Legal Research & Writing
  • Conduct thorough legal research on statutes, case law, and procedural rules.
  • Draft memoranda, motions, pleadings, and discovery requests/responses.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and client meetings.

Case Support
  • Review and organize case files, exhibits, and evidence.
  • Summarize depositions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all case-related work.

Client Interaction & Team Support
  • Assist attorneys in preparing client communications, letters, and reports.
  • Participate in client intake and help gather necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to advance case progress.

Administrative & Professional Development
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times.
  • Track and log tasks in firm systems (Clio, Outlook, and related software).
  • Seek feedback, embrace learning opportunities, and support firm-wide initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Current law student (2L/3L) or recent law school graduate.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis).
