About this Job:The Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS) Legal Division is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Law Clerk to begin in January 2027 and continue through the Spring 2027 semester and beyond. LASERS is a state agency that administers a defined-benefit retirement plan for Louisiana state officers, employees, and their beneficiaries. The System serves approximately 100,000 members.

Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited law school in pursuit of a Juris Doctor degree.
Regular attendance is an essential job function. Candidates must be able to work 15-20 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a self-starter who can manage assignments independently while working collaboratively with attorneys and staff
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing
- Interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
- Communicate professionally with legislative personnel, courthouse staff, and judicial staff
- Demonstrate an ability to learn and apply the laws governing public retirement systems, particularly those applicable to LASERS
- Have a working knowledge of Louisiana community-property law
- Be proficient with standard computer applications and legal-research tools
- Possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive matters
Essential Duties:
Under the supervision of LASERS attorneys, the Law Clerk will assist with a range of legal, regulatory, and administrative matters, including:
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda
- Assisting with the preparation of legal pleadings and other legal documents
- Assisting with the drafting, revision, and promulgation of state rules and regulations
- Confirming the issuance and status of legal documents through various courts
- Performing additional legal and administrative assignments as needed
