The Office of Legal Services is seeking three interim Law Clerks for the summer.

These positions will rotate within our three divisions: Workers' Claims Legal Division, Workplace Standards Legal Division and the Unemployment Insurance and Career Development Legal Division.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

The duties include:
  • Researches law, investigates facts, and prepares legal memoranda to assist attorneys in the Education and Labor Cabinet office of General Counsel in its three (3) legal divisions, including the Workers' Claims Legal Division, Workplace Standards Legal Division, and the Unemployment Insurance and Career Development Legal Division.
  • Assist attorneys with drafting briefs, pleadings, appeals, and review contracts.
  • Reviews Open Records requests and works with Custodian(s) of Record to draft responses and/or redact records responsive to each request for attorneys to review.
  • Attend depositions, hearings, mediations, administrative hearings, settlement meetings, and court proceedings.
  • Assists legal administrative support staff with daily tasks including receiving, reviewing and distributing mail.
  • Works with executives and management to gain understanding of how the Cabinet is organized and managed to understand the essentials behind providing excellent legal service to the Cabinet.

Minimum Requirements:
  • EDUCATION: Completion of twenty-four semester hours at an American Bar Association accredited law school.
