The Law Clerk III position is a unique role which affords the law clerk the opportunity to become a niche expert by conducting complex legal research and performing deep dive substantive document reviews on assigned investigations and cases. This role works closely with the DOJ attorney teams to develop case strategies, review and analyze evidence and make recommendations to further the investigations, and assist with drafting motions, memorandums, and briefs. You will have high level of visibility and often interact with the attorneys and experts to prepare for interviews, depositions, and trial. More About the Role:
The Law Clerk III will be responsible for assisting in the review and analysis of documents and other materials obtained in the course of investigations and to otherwise support the work of Department attorneys and law enforcement agents as required. In addition, you will carry out the below duties and responsibilities:
  • Work with Department attorneys to learn the pertinent facts and posture of active investigations.
  • Act independently and/or as a team leader on larger projects.
  • Review documents obtained in the course of investigations and code them based on their contents and relevance.
  • Review documents obtained in the course of investigations and make preliminary determinations as to whether the documents may be covered by the attorney-client privilege, the work product doctrine, or other legal privileges.
  • Provide feedback on documents reviewed.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Must have a law degree. Must have three to five years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
  • Must be Fluent in Russian
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
  • Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • Prefer candidates who are duly licensed and authorized to practice under the laws of any state, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia and be an active member of the bar in good standing.
  • Have some experience in conducting or supporting criminal investigative work
