Summary:
Justice Christopher McDonald of the Iowa Supreme Court is accepting clerkship applications for the 2025-26 term, commencing August 2025. Applicants should have excellent academic credentials (top 20% required) and outstanding writing and research skills.

Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2024. Select applicants will be contacted after the closing date to schedule an interview.

Responsibilities:
The law clerk will conduct legal research, draft memoranda, prepare case summaries, and review opinions to assist Justice McDonald with the disposition of cases.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school is required. High standard of academic excellence and considerable experience in legal research and writing are desirable.
  • Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check. The Iowa Judicial Branch is an E-Verify employer.
