Description:

Our Washington, D.C. office seeks an associate with 6-8 years' experience to join our Chambers-ranked energy regulatory practice to work with our market-leading data center energy team and serve as a member of our broad-based energy regulatory practice. Our team represents clients on a broad range of energy regulatory and transactional matters, including data center power supply negotiations, regulatory authorizations and administrative litigation before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state utility commissions, energy project development, regulatory counseling for energy transactions, appellate litigation before federal and state courts, and interfacing with regional transmission organizations (RTOs). We work on large energy infrastructure projects such as data centers, renewable, thermal and nuclear power generation, power transmission, oil and natural gas pipelines, and liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminals. Our clients include data center developers, regulated public utilities, independent power producers, independent transmission companies, private equity investors, tax equity investors, activist investors, and oil and gas companies.

Our work includes negotiating power supply and infrastructure transactions, drafting pleadings and briefs, policy-oriented advocacy, settlement and contract negotiation, working with experts to prepare testimony, conducting administrative hearings, providing regulatory support to M&A, private equity and project finance transactions, compliance counseling and strategic advising. Ideal candidates will have experience representing clients in data center related transactions or regulatory proceedings, working before FERC or state utility commissions, strong research and writing skills, a keen interest in energy, a collegial approach to practicing law, and an interest in building and being part of a practice that works at the intersection of energy transactional and regulatory disciplines.

Our team invests in professional development and mentorship. Candidates should be comfortable synthesizing new material and working in evolving regulatory and business environments, interacting directly with clients, and making the most of in-office time by meeting face-to-face with colleagues.
