Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is seeking a highly qualified associate with four to six years of solid land use experience to join our growing team.

Our land use group combines law with strategic insight and strong government contacts to help clients obtain entitlements, permits, and approvals. We work with developers, property owners, investors, public agencies and nonprofits to guide complex and sensitive projects through an increasingly intricate regulatory compliance and approval process.

We are looking for candidates who have a strong interest in and enthusiasm for land use issues and trends, and in helping shape the communities we serve. Ideally, candidates will have experience with land use, administrative law, zoning, affordable housing, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the Subdivision Map Act, historic preservation laws and the California Coastal Act.

Requirements:
  • Four to six years of solid land use and CEQA litigation experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail; excellent legal research and analytical skills
  • Effective and efficient problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work independently and proactively, and to develop creative solutions to meet client and team needs
  • California Bar membership in good standing

Salary:
The base annual pay range for this role is between $295,000 - $370,000. The base pay to be offered will vary and depend on skills and qualifications, experience, location and will also take into account internal equity. Additional medical, financial and/or other benefits will be offered dependent on the position.
