ImpactAs a Labor & Employment Attorney located in Birmingham, AL or Minneapolis, MN, you will serve as a key advisor on labor relations and worker misclassification matters, bringing deep experience in collective bargaining to navigate a dynamic regulatory environment affecting platform based workforces.
While no two days are the same, you will advise on all aspects of labor relations including labor strategy, campaigns, contract negotiations, and grievance and arbitration proceedings and provide day to day counsel on worker classification issues under federal and state law. You will collaborate cross-functionally with business, operations, public policy, and people teams to create guardrails, draft workforce documentation, and develop strategies that support Shipt's business model. Additionally, you will monitor relevant legislation, represent Shipt before the National Labor Relations Board and other administrative agencies, manage outside counsel, and deliver training to internal stakeholders.
What You'll Need to Be Successful
Pay Range: $157,000- $230,000 Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.

- You have a J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- You have 8+ years of experience practicing labor and employment law, combining a background in traditional labor law with meaningful experience in collective bargaining and worker misclassification matters
- You have demonstrated experience with NLRA proceedings, union negotiations, labor arbitrations, and navigating DOL, state agency, or tax authority audits
- You have a strong working knowledge of federal and state worker classification frameworks including IRS common law, ABC, and economic reality tests as well as multi state compliance challenges like California AB 5
- You have experience advising on classification risk in platform, gig economy, or non-traditional workforces, with a preference for experience in retail technology, logistics, or on demand delivery
- You have the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, business oriented guidance, supported by strong written and oral communication skills
- You have sound judgment, the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, and preferably prior in-house counsel experience
