Position Overview:
The Boston office of Robins Kaplan LLP is seeking an Attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join its Insurance Catastrophic Loss / Litigation Practice Group. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively alongside experienced attorneys handling significant and technically complex insurance litigation cases from coverage analysis through trial. Training in all aspects of insurance catastrophic loss will be provided as needed to complement litigation skills. The ideal candidate will have strong research, analytical and writing skills, a passion for litigation, and ability to grasp complex insurance coverage and liability issues. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced trial lawyers on significant property, commercial, casualty, and catastrophic loss cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with partners and senior associates on the interpretation and potential exposure of insurance policies and evaluate coverage issues involving catastrophic, high-exposure claims.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and render written assessments as to coverage and/or litigation issues.
- Participate in client communications, claims analysis and strategic case development from the coverage phase through trial and post-trial filings.
- Responsible for all aspects of case management including tracking deadlines, generating status reports, document management systems and affecting court filings across jurisdictions.
- Assist in all phases of litigation, including the drafting of pleadings, discovery, motions and correspondence; as well as preparations for hearings, depositions (taking and/or defending), motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences and hearings.
- Responsible for keeping senior attorneys appraised of filing deadlines, case status and developments.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- A member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar Association as well as bar associations in any state in which you have been admitted to practice law.
- 2-4 years of litigation experience.
- Insurance coverage (first and/or third party) is a strong plus, but not required.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Demonstrated interest in insurance law, catastrophic loss, and trial advocacy.
- Views the role as a profession, not a job, and is driven to work hard with a growth mindset to develop him/herself as a talented counsel and a multi-dimensional team member and firm contributor.
