Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld LLP seeks a junior commercial litigation associate to join its commercial litigation practice group. The position will be primarily based out of the firm's New York City office with an opportunity for hybrid work.All candidates must be admitted or pending admission in New York with a demonstrated interest in commercial litigation, real estate litigation (residential, commercial and landlord/tenant) and construction law. Some experience practicing in these areas is preferred. In this position, you will grow to handle all aspects of a case, from pre-trial investigation, drafting pleadings, handling the discovery process (including paper discovery and depositions), attending court conferences, drafting dispositive motions, and preparing for and participating in trial. The firm also handles post-judgment collections. Experience working with the CPLR and the FRCP is plus. Exceptional writing and research skills (the firm uses Westlaw) are a requirement.
In this position, you will have significant contact with the firm's clients and decisionmakers, opposing counsel and the court. Since we are an active litigation group, a strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines is crucial while maintaining the highest level of ethics and integrity.
As a full-service firm, our litigation group regularly collaborates with our real estate development, commercial leasing, employment, construction, corporate , trust and estates, estate administration, elder law, and tax practices.
The firm offers a competitive salary, benefits, originations on new business, and strongly encourages individual growth, all while providing a congenial and nurturing work environment. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000 per year plus benefits, commensurate with skills and experience. Unique circumstances, including but not limited to exceptional skills, experience, or a book of business, may merit an upward deviation from this range.
