Position Overview:We are seeking a Junior Criminal Defense Attorney to support our Maryland criminal defense practice, primarily handling cases in Easton and courts across Eastern Maryland. This role is ideal for an attorney with 1–2 years of criminal defense experience who is eager to gain courtroom exposure and develop trial skills while working alongside experienced litigators.
The attorney will manage a growing caseload of misdemeanor and lower-level felony matters while receiving guidance from senior attorneys.
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in criminal matters in Maryland District and Circuit Courts, primarily in Eastern Maryland jurisdictions.
- Assist with and manage criminal cases from arraignment through disposition.
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, and memoranda.
- Appear in court for status hearings, motions hearings, and trials, as appropriate for experience level.
- Advise clients on case strategy, legal rights, and potential outcomes.
- Work closely with senior attorneys, investigators, and staff to prepare cases.
- Maintain regular and clear communication with clients throughout the legal process.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to the Maryland Bar and in good standing.
- 1–2 years of criminal defense experience preferred (public defender experience strongly considered).
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Desire to develop courtroom and trial experience.
- Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to ethical, client-focused representation.
