Position Overview:Metz Lewis is a Pittsburgh-based law firm with a reputation for delivering sophisticated and practical legal guidance. We are seeking a highly motivated associate with 1–4 years of experience to join our Intellectual Property & Technology and Data Security & Privacy practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general intellectual property law and experience or interest in data security and privacy law.
Work location: Pittsburgh, PA (hybrid or remote considered)
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admitted and in good standing (or eligible for admission) in Pennsylvania
- Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) (or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration examination) preferred
- 4 years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical, research, writing, and communication skills
- Attention to detail and sound judgment
- Experience or strong interest in intellectual property due diligence, drafting and negotiating technology and intellectual property-related provisions in commercial contracts, and data security and privacy matters
Responsibilities:
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications
- Advise clients on intellectual property strategy and portfolio development
- Assist with intellectual property and privacy issues in corporate and transactional matters, including due diligence for M&A transactions
- Draft, review, and negotiate technology, intellectual property, and privacy-related commercial agreements
- Communicate directly with clients and provide practical recommendations
- Manage multiple matters and deadlines efficiently
