Position Overview:The Investment Attorney - Private Markets reports to the Chief Legal Officer and provides legal advice to TMRS staff. The attorney will represent TMRS on complex fund investments and bring significant transactional experience and negotiating skills. You will work with highly motivated, experienced legal and investment professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiating complex investment agreements, including agreements for private funds, co-investments, and investment manager agreements.
- Negotiating non-disclosure agreements with prospective investment sponsors.
- Providing legal advice to the investment staff and senior management relating to investment matters.
- Researching and advising on investment-related legal matters.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and rules applicable to TMRS' investments.
- Preparing communications, memos, and legal opinions.
- Retaining and supervising outside counsel.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Preferred:
- Minimum of seven years of legal experience in private markets.
- A current Texas law license
- If not currently licensed in Texas, the selected candidate must be eligible and willing to waive into the Texas Bar within one year of hire.
- Experience working with asset managers or institutional investors.
- Active license in good standing with a state bar association.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas
- Mergers and acquisitions
- Finance or financial transaction

- Starting base salary $225,000+ (based on experience and qualifications)
