Description:

Intellectual Property Law Attorneys, a renowned intellectual property boutique, seeks to hire a highly qualified mid-level associate or patent agent to join our IP Biology/Biotechnology Practice Team. The position will primarily involve patent counseling, procurement, and opinions, with opportunities for licensing and enforcement, as well.

General Summary:
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of patent prosecution experience, including but not limited to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, managing global patent portfolios, client counseling, and opinion development. Practical experience and an in-depth knowledge of Biology or Biotechnology is required.

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or MS in a biology discipline required (e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, or biotechnology)
  • 4+ years previous IP law experience
  • Good standing in the bar(s) where licensed to practice law if an attorney
  • Active USPTO Registration
  • Superior academic record, excellent written and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities

Essential Job Duties:
  • Counseling clients on effective IP strategy options
  • Patent procurement activities, including:
    • Preparation and prosecution of complex patent applications
    • Prosecuting a global patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions by instructing foreign patent counsel in the prosecution of foreign counterpart applications
    • Consulting with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers
  • Conduct IP related due diligence for opinions, including patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement and invalidity analyses
