Description:Sheppard, an Am Law 50 global law firm, seeks a Special Counsel with 5–10 years of experience to join its Insurance Team in Los Angeles. Exceptional candidates in other California offices may also be considered.
Our team represents many of the nation's largest insurers in complex, high-stakes litigation across California and nationwide. We handle class action defense, insurance bad faith matters with significant financial exposure, and cases involving novel coverage or extracontractual issues. The team also advises insurers on institutional practices and emerging risk.
We are seeking a senior litigator experienced in insurer-side class action and bad faith litigation, with coverage experience a plus. This role offers the chance to join a busy, sophisticated practice with no book-of-business requirement and flexibility on hours expectations, while working on premier matters for leading insurer clients.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5-10 years of experience defending insurers in complex litigation, including class action defense
- Experience handling insurance bad faith/extracontractual matters; coverage experience is a plus
- Demonstrated excellence in motion practice and legal writing, including dispositive and complex discovery motions; appellate experience is a plus
- Experience managing matters in state and federal courts, including discovery strategy and depositions
- Ability to independently manage projects while effectively collaborating within a team environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical abilities

Compensation: $270,000–$310,000
