To facilitate this, State Farm has an exciting opportunity to join the Law Department in our Corporate Counseling & Transactions Unit (CC&T) to advise on a variety of technology matters.

This position is based at our corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, and is classified as a hybrid role. Attorneys in hybrid positions are expected to spend significant time working in the Bloomington office. Work arrangements may evolve based on business needs.

The Opportunity:
The primary focus of the Counsel position will be to advise on legal issues related to transactions for technology services, including counseling our Enterprise Technology Department, and other business areas on an array of vendor contracts addressing issues such as privacy, data security, data licensing, and IP ownership/licensing. The role will include significant drafting and negotiation of a variety of technology agreements including, generative AI services and development, SaaS, PaaS, technology consulting, staff augmentation, and outsourcing agreements. In addition to assisting in contract negotiation, the attorney selected will also serve as a strategic partner to various business areas providing counseling on allocating business and legal risks associated with vendor relationships.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Law Degree from an ABA accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
  • Active law license to practice law in at least one state and a member in good standing of the bar with an ability to obtain a limited license in IL if not already appropriately licensed in IL
  • If not already licensed to practice law in Illinois, you will need to obtain at least an in-house limited license for this role, submit an application to the Illinois Board of Admissions within 90 days from your start date, actively pursue the licensure, and keep your supervisor informed throughout the process
  • Attorney with 3+ years of transactional experience, preferably with experience or acumen in the technology area and familiarity with issues related to artificial intelligence.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to providing quality legal advice, learning agility (including a demonstrated willingness to develop expertise in new subject matters), and a history of enthusiastic participation in a team environment
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating technology related agreements is preferred
  • Experience counseling highly regulated industries or financial service firms is preferred
  • Proactive mindset-the ability to anticipate and respond effectively to clients' needs and actively assist clients by practicing preventative law
