Position Overview:We are looking for a motivated, organized, and client-focused immigration attorney to join our litigation team. This position is primarily focused on removal defense in Immigration Court (EOIR), immigration bond proceedings, immigration appeals, and related litigation. Although the position is primarily-litigation focused, the attorney will also represent clients before USCIS for matters such as asylum interviews, adjustment of status, naturalization, and other USCIS proceedings.
The ideal candidate enjoys courtroom advocacy, legal analysis, and working directly with clients throughout the immigration process. The attorney will work closely with the firm's partners and supervising attorneys in developing case strategies while independently handling court appearances, preparing legal filings, and managing their assigned cases and tasks. You will also have support from a dedicated team of legal assistants, law clerks, and office management who assist with scheduling, client communication, document collection, case preparation, filing, deadline tracking, and other tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in Immigration Court (EOIR), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, and other legal documents
- Locate and analyze criminal records to advise clients regarding immigration consequences
- Review legal work prepared by legal assistants and law clerks before filing
- Provide legal guidance to legal assistants and law clerks throughout the life of each case
- Collaborate with staff and management to provide exceptional client service
- Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, staff, opposing counsel, and government agencies
- Conduct legal consultations and evaluate eligibility for relief from removal and other immigration benefits
- Maintain organized case files and ensure legal work is completed accurately and timely
- Stay informed regarding changes in immigration laws, EOIR procedures, USCIS policies, and relevant case law
- Work collaboratively with partners and supervising attorneys on litigation strategy and complex legal issues
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active State Bar Membership
- Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken)
- Experience with immigration law through a law school clinic, non-profit organization, government agency, or private law firm, particularly involving EOIR and removal defense
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow office procedures
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Computer literate, Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, and case management software
- Commitment to providing exceptional client service
