Summary:The Reproductive Equity Now Foundation (RENF) is seeking a Hotline Counsel Fellow to lead the expansion of our Abortion Legal Hotline, a free and confi dential legal resource for patients, providers, and supporters navigating the rapidly changing landscape of abortion access. This is a 12-month, grant-funded fellowship, and continuation beyond the fi rst year will depend on future funding.
Reporting
to the Senior Policy Counsel, the Hotline Counsel Fellow will help to
manage daily hotline operations, build partnerships with attorneys in
New Hampshire to expand hotline access into the state, and work across
the region to raise awareness about this vital resource. This temporary
fellowship is ideal for a mission-driven attorney who combines sharp
legal skills with empathy, a drive to build networks and relationships,
and a deep commitment to reproductive freedom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Area #1: Regional Expansion & Relationship Building
- Work to expand the Abortion Legal Hotline into New Hampshire by developing relationships with law fi rms, garnering support from elected offi cials, and building and executing work plans to expand the Hotline's operations.
- Build relationships with law fi rms, bar associations, legal service organizations, and individual attorneys to expand RENF's legal volunteer base.
- Coordinate onboarding and scheduling for participating attorneys.
- Area #2: Hotline Management & Legal Support
- Support staffi ng the Abortion Legal Hotline, responding to inquiries, and connecting callers with pro bono legal support.
- Research and track state and federal laws affecting abortion access, patient privacy, and cross-border care.
- Develop and maintain referral relationships with pro bono partners, in coordination with Senior Policy Counsel.
- Area #3: Hotline Programming
- Help lead trainings for Hotline attorneys to ensure they are up-to-date on the latest developments in the reproductive equity landscape.
- Ensure that Hotline protocols, scripts, and materials are up-to-date and compliant with current laws.
- Work with communications staff to promote the Hotline through digital outreach, presentations, and materials for patients and providers.
- Conduct trainings and informational sessions for health care providers, clinic staff, and community organizations about legal rights and available resources.
- Support the development of educational materials on abortion access and legal protections.
Qualifications
- A J.D. or equivalent degree;
- An active license to practice law in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or New Hampshire;
- Willingness to travel across New England for the duties of the role;
- 1-2 years of relevant legal experience;
- A commitment to advancing reproductive rights and justice;
- Knowledge of laws affecting access to health care; reproductive rights jurisprudence; and the reproductive health, rights, and justice movement;
- Ability to take initiative; manage a variety of tasks; meet deadlines; work well under pressure; and demonstrate attention to detail.
Location:
The Hotline Counsel Fellow must reside in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Connecticut. This is a hybrid fellowship with travel required to meet the needs of the role.
Compensation & Benefits
The
Hotline Counsel Fellow is a full-time, non-exempt, one-year,
grant-funded fellowship. The salary range is $70,000-$80,000 in addition
to a generous benefi ts package, including health and dental insurance
and a retirement account with employer match.
