  • Advise hospitals and health systems, physician groups, and other healthcare providers on federal and state healthcare regulatory and compliance matters, including fraud and abuse laws
  • Counsel clients on licensure, certification, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment, third-party reimbursement, and other operational regulatory issues affecting physicians, physician groups, and hospitals
  • Develop and advise on compliance programs, internal reviews, and responses to government inquiries and audits
  • Advise on HIPAA privacy and security and other health information matters
  • Provide regulatory due diligence and structuring advice on healthcare mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, joint ventures, and public and private health care financing transactions, working alongside the firm's corporate healthcare attorneys
  • Draft, review, and negotiate healthcare contracts, including professional services, employment, management, master service, and licensing agreements and other provider arrangements
  • Manage client relationships, serve as a primary point of contact on assigned matters, and contribute to business development efforts across the firm's healthcare practice
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and members of the Health Care Practice Team and across the firm's other practice teams

Qualifications:
Candidates should be prepared to step into a role where they will have an immediate impact on the team's healthcare regulatory and transactional work. Candidates should have:

  • Sound analytical judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and outstanding client service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining a high level of responsiveness and professionalism
  • A collaborative, professional approach to working with clients, attorneys, and staff

While preferable, an existing book of business is not required for this role. Varnum supports attorneys who are building their practice, and candidates with the drive to develop and grow client relationships are encouraged to apply. Admission to the Michigan bar is required. Candidates not licensed to practice in Michigan must be willing to become admitted to the Michigan bar. The firm will provide relocation support to candidates interested in moving to Michigan and reimburse expenses related to bar admission.
