Jones Day is seeking a mid-level associate to join its Government Regulation practice in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience focused on U.S. international trade and national security matters, including economic sanctions, export controls, import and customs requirements, and foreign investment review. Experience advising on issues concerning OFAC sanctions, ITAR, EAR, CBP and related import requirements, and related enforcement or compliance counseling is required (although experience in all areas is not required).

Candidates should have demonstrated experience counseling clients international trade compliance, conducting internal investigations, preparing voluntary self-disclosures, obtaining licenses and advisory opinions, and managing risk in cross-border transactions. Experience supporting M&A and private equity transactions through CFIUS filings, mitigation agreements, and national security due diligence is highly valued. A background engaging with U.S. government agencies such as OFAC, the U.S. Department of State's DDTC, the U.S. Department of Commerce's BIS, and CFIUS is preferred.

We are looking for an associate with excellent drafting skills, superior academic credentials, and a commitment to teamwork, client service, and taking on significant responsibility. The role offers frequent client interaction and the opportunity to work on sophisticated matters across industries, often in coordination with colleagues in our cross-office, integrated practice.

Candidates must have a J.D. and be in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with eligibility to waive into the DC Bar.

The salary range for this role is $260,000 - $455,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
