We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled General Counsel with a strong specialization in labor and employment law to join our executive team. The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal advisor, overseeing all legal matters within the organization, with a primary focus on labor relations, employee rights, regulatory compliance, and employment-related litigation.

This role is critical to ensuring legal compliance across all HR and labor-related operations and advising senior leadership on risk mitigation, policy development, and strategy in a rapidly evolving employment landscape.

Requirements:
  • Serve as the lead legal advisor on all labor and employment matters, including collective bargaining, workplace disputes, internal investigations, employee discipline, and terminations.
  • Represent the company in negotiations with labor unions, including contract drafting, grievance resolution, and arbitration proceedings.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor and employment laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, Title VII, ADA, OSHA).
  • Provide legal guidance on HR policies, employee handbooks, and training to ensure legal compliance and reduce risk.
  • Oversee and manage employment-related litigation and coordinate with outside counsel when necessary.
  • Advise executive leadership on the legal implications of strategic decisions, organizational changes, and new policies.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies for risk management and dispute resolution.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, severance agreements, and executive compensation packages.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in labor laws and regulations and educate stakeholders accordingly.
  • Manage and oversee the legal department, including staff attorneys and support personnel if applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare laws including HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, EMTALA, CMS regulations, and state-specific healthcare rules.
  • Provide legal oversight for contracting, including physician agreements, managed care agreements, vendor contracts, NDAs, and business associate agreements.
  • Advise leadership on emerging legal and regulatory issues affecting the organization and industry.
  • Support corporate governance, including board matters, policy drafting, and legal oversight of strategic initiatives.
  • Lead internal investigations related to compliance or legal issues, and manage response strategies.
  • Provide legal education and training to leadership and staff across the organization.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Washington State, in good standing.
  • Minimum [8-10+] years of legal experience, with a strong background in labor and employment law.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Proven ability to translate legal concepts into practical, business-focused advice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as General Counsel or in a senior legal leadership role.
  • Experience working with hospitals, physician groups, health systems, or other healthcare entities.
  • Background in supporting M&A activity, joint ventures, or healthcare system integrations.
  • Previous in-house counsel experience preferred.
