Cardless is transforming the credit card landscape by empowering innovative brands to offer their customers world-class, digital-first, and seamlessly integrated credit card experiences.

We're looking for an exceptional General Counsel to lead the legal function at Cardless during a pivotal stage of growth. This person will serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team, manage a small in-house legal team, and partner closely across product, operations, finance, compliance, and partnerships.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and mentor a small in-house legal team (Commercial + Product/Regulatory Counsel)
  • Oversee external counsel relationships, budgets, and workstreams
  • Build scalable legal infrastructure, processes, and policies as the company grows
  • Partner with leadership on risk, strategy, and company-wide decision-making
  • Lead all corporate legal matters, entity management, and governance processes
  • Manage Board materials, communications, and corporate recordkeeping
  • Oversee financing rounds, investor negotiations, and equity matters
  • Drive legal support for key partnerships and strategic transactions
  • Own all commercial contracting, including partner, vendor, and investor agreements
  • Lead counterparty negotiations and ensure strong legal leverage
  • Liaise with banks, partners, and regulators on matters impacting our products and operations
  • Partner closely with Product, Compliance, and Operations on new features and product expansion

Requirements:
  • JD and active bar membership
  • Trained at a top law firm followed by in-house experience at a high-growth tech company
  • Experience in financial services (cards experience is a plus but not required)
  • Track record handling complex commercial negotiations and advising on product/regulatory issues
  • Experience building and managing a high performing legal team

Compensation:
This role has an annual starting salary range of $275,000 - $350,000 + equity + benefits (see below). Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, and specific work location.
