What does this role look like?
This position supports the Vice President and General Counsel of Space and the executive leadership of the Commercial Civil Space line of business, Operations and Global Supply Chain. Commercial Civil Space is responsible for developing the Orion Spacecraft for NASA, Commercial Communication Satellites, Planetary Exploration spacecraft and Weather and Remote Sensing Spacecraft. Operations includes Production Operations, Assembly, Test & Launch, Launch Services, Facilities Operations & Strategies, Logistics & Operations Services with a near-term focus on Ramp to Rate acceleration to meet production demands.

In this role you will have the following daily key responsibilities:
The role involves providing legal support regarding a full spectrum of transactions and subject areas, including U.S. Government and commercial contracts; international commercial contracts; bid and proposal preparation; and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate must have the ability to identify critical legal issues and appropriately balance risk and business strategy. He or she must be able to convert legal recommendations to actionable advice for program and other personnel. Strong executive presence and the ability to interface with leaders at all levels is key. He or she must be able to develop relationships with and influence internal and external stakeholders, and to collaborate and thrive in a matrixed environment. The successful candidate must be a strong leader who has the desire and ability to manage and develop other attorneys.

This position does not support teleworking; the preferred candidate will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility one of the Coolest places to work: Denver, Colorado (opens in new window)(opens in new window), and be expected to work in the office.

Basic Qualifications:
To be effective, you will need to possess these basic qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • A member in good standing of a state bar.
  • Work for a U.S. government entity or nationally recognized law firm.
  • Experience managing, training, and guiding other attorneys.
  • Successful record of managing outside counsel.
  • Record of successful performance and increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to travel, including internationally, estimated at 20%.
  • You will need to be a US Citizen, and currently possess and be able to maintain a US TOP SECRET, and able to obtain SCI clearance, to support this government contract, as well as successfully pass a drug and background check, in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
