About the Richard and Ginni Mithoff Pro Bono Program
The Mithoff Program introduces students to the legal profession's tradition and ethical obligation of pro bono service and empowers law students to use their developing legal knowledge and skills to address unmet legal needs in the community. The Mithoff Program offers pro bono opportunities to all Texas Law students, including through internal pro bono projects supervised by Mithoff Program attorneys and law school faculty. The Mithoff Program's current roster of in-house projects delivers services in areas of law that include alternatives to guardianship, asset preservation and estate planning, criminal record clearing, driver license recovery, immigration, parole, special education, Title IX, and transactional legal services. The Mithoff Program regularly collaborates with law students, faculty, and partner organizations to develop new pro bono opportunities for Texas Law students. The Mithoff Program is part of the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law.

Purpose:
The University of Texas School of Law invites applicants for a two-year post-graduate fellowship in the Richard and Ginni Mithoff Pro Bono Program. This position will offer a recent law graduate with an interest in working in legal education the opportunity to supervise law student work on pro bono projects and at pro bono workshops and clinics.

The position is at the law school campus in Austin, Texas. This is a 24-month, full-time staff position. During the academic year, the Fellow will be expected to perform most of their work in person at the law school, with limited ability to work remotely; during the summers and between academic terms, more remote work will be possible. During academic terms, the Fellow will be expected to attend occasional pro bono trainings and workshops scheduled on evenings and weekends. There is no expectation of continued employment at the end of the fellowship term.

Responsibilities:
  • The Fellow, under the supervision of Mithoff Program attorneys, will assist in overseeing in-house pro bono projects, working with student leaders, and supervising law student pro bono work.
  • The Fellow will assist with pro bono trainings, pro bono event planning and operations, and the evaluation of projects and student experiences.
  • The Fellow, under the supervision of and with the support of Mithoff Program staff, will develop and oversee a large-scale pro bono service initiative for Texas Law students.
  • The Fellow will support Justice Center initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • A J.D. degree from an accredited law school, received less than three years prior to position start date in August 2027. Current law students who anticipate earning a J.D. degree by June 2027 and taking the Texas bar exam in the summer of 2027 are eligible to apply.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas, or the ability to become licensed in Texas within three months of the position start date in August 2027.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest or pro bono legal work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

Salary:
$75,000 annually
