A Typical Day
The First Vice President, Mortgage Operations Assistant General Counsel is responsible for supporting nationwide federal and state court litigation across all Pennymac entities. This role oversees outside counsel strategies, legal document reviews, corporate reporting, and internal litigation support teams.

The FVP, MO Assist Gen Cnsl will:
  • Select and manage outside counsel by evaluating performance, directing litigation and settlement strategies, and reviewing pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs
  • Supervise and direct litigation specialists in executing defense litigation support workflows
  • Audit, negotiate, and approve outside law firm invoices to maintain litigation budget parameters
  • Prepare litigation risk and case status reporting for senior management, investors, insurers, lenders, regulators, and capital market transactions
  • Collaborate with all levels of internal management and cross-functional teams to resolve active legal matters
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

What You'll Bring
  • Must be a licensed attorney, preferably in CA or TX
  • Broad knowledge of mortgage origination or servicing is preferred, particularly in foreclosure and loss mitigation
  • Must have significant experience in business litigation, preferably mortgage servicing-related defense litigation
  • Experience with managing attorneys and paralegals is preferred
  • Must have a general understanding of civil litigation procedures and local rules for state and federal courts
  • Class action and trial experience is preferred
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and interact professionally with attorneys, litigation specialists and all levels of management
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills and good judgment are essential
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email are required. Must also have the ability to create reports and processes for efficient information retrieval and clear presentation
  • Experience with mortgage servicing systems is preferred
  • Must be a team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently
  • Proven track record at delivering timely and accurate information in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, mathematical skills and sound judgment
  • Financial Services and, if possible, mortgage industry experience preferred
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interface with executive management
