About the Position:Legacy Legal & Business Services PLC is seeking an experienced Family Law Associate Attorney to join our growing West Michigan practice. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a Michigan attorney with meaningful family law, courtroom, and motion practice experience who is comfortable handling hearings, advocating for clients, and managing an active caseload.
The attorney's primary practice will be family law, including divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, and related domestic-relations matters. The position offers significant client contact, courtroom work, case responsibility, and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the firm continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage family law matters from intake through resolution.
- Represent clients in divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, and related domestic-relations matters.
- Prepare, file, respond to, and argue motions.
- Appear independently for hearings, conferences, evidentiary proceedings, and other court appearances.
- Develop case strategy, conduct legal research, and prepare pleadings, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other professionals.
- Negotiate settlements while preparing matters for litigation when resolution is not possible.
- Maintain case deadlines, accurate timekeeping, and organized matter files.
- Meet the firm's reasonable billable-hour and performance expectations.
Required Qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in Michigan and in good standing.
- Prior Michigan family law experience.
- Courtroom experience.
- Motion practice experience, including preparing and arguing motions.
- Ability to independently handle hearings and manage an active caseload.
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Strong client communication skills and sound professional judgment.
- Ability to manage deadlines, competing priorities, and confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years of legal experience.
- Substantial experience handling contested Michigan family law matters.
- Experience with evidentiary hearings, trials, or other contested proceedings.
Compensation:
Starting salary: $75,000 annually, with compensation commensurate with experience.
Additional compensation: Performance-based bonus opportunities.
