The US Banking and Finance practice of A Distinctively Global Law Firm is seeking one mid-level associate with 3 to 5 years of experience and/or one senior level associate to support the Financial Services Regulatory practice. In particular, the group is looking for someone with Firm, government, or in-house experience regarding consumer financial laws and regulations, including substantial engagement with: (i) Federal consumer financial laws and regulations related to extensions of non-mortgage credit (e.g., EFTA, FCRA, FDCPA, GLBA, MLA, SCRA, TILA, and UDAAP); and/or (ii) state regulatory regimes (e.g., licensing, usury, disclosures) for non-mortgage consumer and small business credit. Candidate should have strong writing skills, with experience drafting for multiple contexts and audiences, including in-house counsel, client business teams, commercial counterparties, and/or regulators/courts.

Qualified candidates should be licensed to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction, ideally one in which A Distinctively Global Law Firm has an office (or ability to waive into the bar of a A Distinctively Global Law Firm location). We are looking to place in either A Distinctively Global Law Firm office. The associate could be located Charlotte, DC, Chicago, New York, or SF Bay Area.
  • Prior experience and interest in one or more of the following asset classes and product types:
    • General-purpose unsecured consumer loans and lines of credit
    • Student loans
    • Credit cards
    • Retail, home improvement, and solar financing
    • Automobile and equipment financing
    • Small business loans and credit alternatives (e.g., factoring and merchant cash advances)
    • Non-mortgage loan servicing and debt collection
    • Non-mortgage loan arrangement and brokerage
  • Seniority-appropriate ability to operate independently providing regulatory analysis and advice in one or both of the following matter contexts:
    • Consumer and small business financial program development (e.g., licensing, development of compliance policies, development of borrower-facing documents) and day-to-day compliance assistance.
    • Compliance reviews and diligence (e.g., on behalf of financing sources and investors and/or examination readiness reviews on behalf of market participants) and associated transactional assistance (e.g., compliance review of financing or loan sale agreements, review of risk factors for securitizations.
