Position Summary:
UCLA School of Law is seeking a highly energetic and motivated individual with a significant interest in entertainment, media and intellectual property law to serve as the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation Fellow (Fellow) for the Documentary Film Legal Clinic (Clinic) at the UCLA School of Law. The Clinic launched in 2018 with a two-fold purpose: 1) to provide law students with the opportunity to gain entertainment and media law skills while representing clients; and 2) to provide legal support for documentary filmmakers who typically lack the resources or access to retain skilled lawyers, particularly early in their development process. The Fellow will work under the supervision of the Director ("Director") of the Clinic, Dale Cohen, who is also Special Counsel to the PBS documentary series FRONTLINE, and collaborate closely with the Associate Director of the Clinic, Loralee Sundra, and other administrators and faculty to develop clinical, experiential, and pro bono opportunities that ensure students receive high-quality educational experiences. You will work with Clinic professors and supervise student-clinicians in counseling and providing legal services to the Clinic's filmmaker clients. The Fellow will also take on substantial responsibility for the operation of the Clinic's documentary filmmaker education program, which includes on-campus screenings and panels and programs at various film festivals around the country. In this role, you will cultivate relationships with film festivals and other documentary film organizations, collaborate with festival and organization programmers on all aspects of the program, and help to develop of program content.

Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications:
  • Professional work experience, particularly in relevant areas of the law, the media industry or a judicial clerkship is desirable, (Preferred)
  • Advanced time management, organizational and planning skills required. (Required)
  • Demonstrated commitment to educating students and the documentary film community on pertinent legal matters. (Required)
  • Demonstrated excellent legal research and writing skills (Required)
  • Proficient verbal and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in writing. (Required)
  • Advanced ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the law school and university as well as with external partners. (Required)
  • Ability to independently manage a caseload and quickly assume responsibilities. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from State Bar-accredited or from ABA-accredited law school or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • Admission to the California Bar or willingness to sit for the California Bar (Required)
