Description:
Family Law Attorney, Modern Law
Modern Law is Arizona's largest family law firm, with 27 practitioners across offices in the Phoenix metro area, Tucson, and Yuma. We help people through divorce, custody disputes, and some of the hardest moments of their lives. We are looking for a family law attorney who wants to do that work well, and who wants to do it with a team.

What makes us different
Our attorneys don't work in silos. We aren't divided by practice group or office. Our lawyers talk strategy, compare results, and help each other every day. When you take on a hard case here, more than 20 other attorneys to think it through with. That collaboration is how we get better results for clients, and it's how our attorneys grow faster than they would on their own.

We also care about the client experience beyond the courtroom. Family law clients are often scared, overwhelmed, and dealing with the worst version of their former partner. We want attorneys who treat clients with patience and respect, explain things in plain language, and help people make good decisions under pressure.

Why join us:
  • A large team of family law attorneys who collaborate every day
  • Support staff and systems so you can focus on practicing law
  • Room to grow in a firm that is still expanding
  • Meaningful work helping people get through one of the toughest times in their lives

Responsibilities:
What You'll Do:
  • Represent clients in divorce, legal decision-making (custody), parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, and property division
  • Handle cases involving domestic violence and child safety concerns with skill and sensitivity
  • Draft and negotiate prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
  • Negotiate settlements and advocate in court, including evidentiary hearings and trials
  • Stay calm and effective when emotions run high, on both sides
  • Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
  • Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
  • Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
  • Handle the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings as needed

Qualifications:
  • You must have an Arizona License to practice law and a minimum of 4 years of family law experience to apply for this position
  • This is a litigation practice with complex issues, including domestic violence, business division, and complex property issues. You should have experience with these types of cases
  • Must work well with a team and have the ability to work independently

Who We're Looking for:
  • Licensed to practice law in Arizona
  • Family law experience, with a track record of good outcomes for clients
  • Strong in negotiation and in the courtroom
  • Someone who shares what they learn and asks for help when it would make the result better
  • Someone who wants to build a career, not just fill a seat
  • Candidates should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high
