Position Summary:
A Government Entity's Legal Services envisions a safe, welcoming, and inclusive Oregon for immigrants and refugees. Our work is focused on creating more access to direct legal services that provide more security and stability for our most vulnerable community members. This position leads A Government Entity's Family Legal Services unit, supporting and training attorneys and staff providing family legal services to A Government Entity clients. Responsibilities include liaising with colleague agencies, ensuring quality client outcomes, successful and timely completion of funder required reports, and implementation of standards, forms, and processes. The position will represent members of our immigrant and refugee communities in family law proceedings in the Portland metro area.

Essential Functions:
  • Represent survivors of domestic violence in their family law matters including guardianship, child custody, divorce, and restraining orders (including trial)
  • Self-manage a case load and contribute to data gathering, reporting, and advocacy to funders.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare written filings as part of ongoing representation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with A Government Entity's immigration and disability legal services units and our Survivor's Services department, as well as other local non-profit service providers.
  • Work with paralegals and assistants to generate processes and procedures to support ongoing workflow.
  • Participate in funding conversations with private and public funders; work with agency Development Team to support proposals made to various funding sources; and engage in long-term growth and sustainability planning.
  • Assist with other projects and duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Specific Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Licensure with the Oregon State Bar.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in family law.
  • First chair family law trial experience.
  • Fluent in another language other than English (Spanish preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and online legal research.
  • Must be able to pass criminal history background check.

Knowledge:
Education: Doctorate Degree (6) (Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school)

Experience: 2-3 years of experience is required (4) in family law Licensure,

Certification
: Must be a member in good standing with the Oregon State Bar

Additional Language Required: Bilingual (and/or Bicultural) in another language, preferred.

Computers: All positions at A Government Entity require use of a computer and experience working with Microsoft Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
