Description:

Connecticut Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) seeks a skilled and committed attorney to fill a family law attorney position providing victims-survivors of intimate partner violence or sexual assault with holistic, client-centered legal advocacy in restraining order, dissolution of marriage and custody matters in the Stamford Judicial District.

Attorneys Are EXPECTED TO:
  • Staff CLS' temporary restraining order (TRO) office in the Stamford Superior Court multiple days each week and provide legal assistance to indigent TRO applicants.
  • In addition to assisting TRO applicants, maintain an active caseload of dissolution of marriage and custody matters.
  • Represent clients in Superior Court.
  • Provide back up and support to colleagues in CLS' Stamford office and other CLS offices.
  • Conduct community outreach and coordinate activities with social service, domestic violence or sex assault agencies working with our clients.
  • Help identify larger trends and issues for our clients, and work to develop strategies to respond to those trends and issues.

Qualifications:
  • Deep and demonstrated commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income, vulnerable, and marginalized communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively interview clients, write persuasively and clearly, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability both to collaborate closely with colleagues and also to work independently.
  • Creativity and flexibility in solving problems and meeting deadlines and other challenges.
  • Connecticut bar admission or ability to be sworn into the Connecticut bar.
  • Experience in, or connections to, low-income communities Knowledge of relevant substantive and procedural law, including courtroom practice and family law.

Compensation:
Salary $70,000 - $135,782, depending on experience; excellent health, vacation/leave, and other benefits.
