Job Overview:Baxley Maniscalco is a fast-growing law firm is seeking a passionate and experienced (5-7 years) family law advocate to join our family law practice in east Alabama. The ideal candidate can handle contested litigation with compassion, confidence, and attention to detail--while contributing to a positive, client-focused firm.
The ideal candidate will have substantial courtroom experience and the ability to manage all phases of a family law case, from initial consultation through trial. You'll have direct client contact, full paralegal and administrative support, and the autonomy to manage your caseload within a structured, supportive team environment.
This role is designed for an attorney ready to lead complex cases, develop client relationships, and grow into a non-equity partner track position.
We handle cases throughout Calhoun, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair, Talladega, Randolph and Cherokee counties. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a full caseload of divorce, custody, adoption, and modification cases with minimal supervision.
- Conduct client consultations with an excellent hire rate, advise potential clients on case strategy, and set realistic expectations.
- Draft pleadings, discovery, settlement agreements, and trial materials.
- Handle court appearances including motions, hearings, and trials across multiple counties.
- Supervise and collaborate with assigned paralegal and legal assistant.
- Maintain strong client communication and foster positive client relationships.
- Participate in firm development initiatives, including client education content, marketing content, and local networking.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of family law procedures and statutes.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.
- Excellent negotiation skills to facilitate amicable resolutions when possible.
- Exceptional legal drafting and writing skills for preparing pleadings, motions, contracts, and correspondence.
- Ability to conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a caseload of 35-45 active contested matters.
- Effective communication skills for client interaction and courtroom advocacy.
Required Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Alabama, in good standing.
- 5–7 years of experience practicing primarily in family law.
- Demonstrated success in contested matters (custody trials, evidentiary hearings, etc.).
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a high-performing team.

- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience (up to $120,000 base).
