Growing Baton Rouge, Louisiana business and construction law firm has an opening for an experienced lateral attorney who has practiced law for between 5 and 10 years to work on interesting civil cases and transactional assignments that can often challenge a lawyer's creativity. Ideal candidate will have experience in litigation, including depositions, discovery and motion practice, as well as in contracts, construction law and/or business disputes. Compensation negotiable, but commensurate with experience.Qualifications: JD from ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Louisiana. Must be a self-starter, a desire to succeed, and have strong attention to detail. Experience in analyzing, reviewing, editing, and drafting legal documents as well as superior logical reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Must have good written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Must have a demonstrated ability to work with clients who demand excellence and be able to meet their expectations. Must have a stable work tenure and demonstrated ability to help prosecute or defend a client's civil lawsuit or arbitration matter from filing through judgment and collections, and possible appeals.
Responsibilities: Work with other attorneys to assist with active cases on discovery and other litigation tasks, manage litigation deadlines, and otherwise assume a second-chair role on certain files. For other cases, there will be first-chair opportunities, so you must also have the necessary experience to immediately assume client files, take and defend depositions, prepare and respond to discovery, prepare and present witnesses, and attend and argue at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, etc. Should be experienced in drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs with accompanying research expertise, as well as in evaluating case strengths and weaknesses and preparing legal opinions for clients.
