Description:
Bedoya & Hussain Law Firm is seeking an experienced immigration attorney to join our growing immigration practice.We are looking for an attorney who can independently manage immigration matters, develop case strategy, prepare clients for hearings and interviews, and handle cases from intake through resolution without requiring routine partner supervision.
Our immigration practice focuses on humanitarian and family-based immigration. The current caseload includes affirmative and defensive asylum, removal defense, SIJS, adjustment of status, family petitions, detained matters, and immigration bond.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage an immigration caseload.
- Represent clients before EOIR, including Master Calendar and Individual Merits Hearings.
- Handle affirmative and defensive asylum matters.
- Handle SIJS matters, including related New Jersey and/or New York state-court proceedings and USCIS filings.
- Represent detained clients and handle immigration bond matters.
- Handle adjustment of status and family-based immigration matters.
- Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and USCIS interviews.
- Develop case strategy and identify evidentiary and legal issues.
- Provide substantive legal guidance to the firm's immigration team.
- Maintain strong communication with clients and referral sources.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of substantive immigration-law experience.
- Active New Jersey and/or New York Bar admission.
- Experience appearing before EOIR.
- Experience personally handling Master Calendar and Individual Merits Hearings.
- Strong asylum experience.
- Experience with SIJS, detained matters, and immigration bonds strongly preferred.
- Ability to exercise independent legal judgment and manage matters with minimal partner supervision.
- Strong legal writing, client communication, and case-management skills.
- Experience with BIA appeals and motions to reopen is a plus but is not required.
Spanish fluency is strongly preferred but not required. We have Spanish-speaking staff available to assist.
Schedule:
We offer substantial flexibility. The position can be primarily remote, with attendance required for court appearances, USCIS interviews, and other matters requiring an in-person appearance.
We would prefer one regular in-office day each week with our immigration team in Paramus, ideally Tuesday or Wednesday. The exact part-time schedule can be structured with the right candidate.
The Opportunity:
You will join an established immigration team with paralegal and administrative support already in place. The attorney will have significant autonomy over the legal work while our existing team continues to manage the operational side of the practice.
The firm is actively investing in growing its immigration practice. Our preference is to find someone who can grow with us, with the potential for the position to develop into a full-time immigration attorney/practice leadership role as the practice expands.
Origination compensation is available for new matters personally generated by the attorney. Business development is welcomed but is not a requirement of the position.
This is an integrated role with Bedoya & Hussain Law Firm. The attorney may not maintain a separate immigration practice or competing immigration business while employed by the firm.
