Description:

Civil Litigation Attorney — Springfield, Missouri

Our Client | Springfield, MO | Full-Time

About Our Client
Our Client is a respected, growing litigation firm serving Southwest and Central Missouri, with a reputation as a trusted advocate for causes many attorneys turn away from. The firm's work centers on contested family law matters, where the stakes are personal and the opposition is often entrenched, alongside an active practice in civil rights violations, employment disputes, and litigation against municipalities, counties, and state and federal agencies. This is a firm that measures success by outcomes for clients who have often been dismissed elsewhere — and it is investing deliberately in the next generation of litigators who will lead it forward.

About the role:
This hire is a strategic priority for the firm, not simply a caseload fill. We're seeking a licensed Missouri attorney with 3–5 years of civil litigation experience who can grow into both an exceptional litigator and a future firm leader. The role centers on contested family law matters, with the opportunity to work across the firm's broader civil rights, employment, and governmental litigation practice. Family law litigation experience is strongly preferred — we're most interested in attorneys who are sharp, principled, and ready to build a career here, not just fill a role.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage an active caseload of contested family law matters from intake through resolution, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
  • Represent clients in court appearances, hearings, depositions, and mediations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements
  • Advise clients clearly and compassionately in high-conflict family law disputes (custody, divorce, support, and related proceedings)
  • Support or co-counsel on the firm's civil rights, employment, and governmental litigation matters as caseload and interest allow
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to keep matters moving efficiently
  • Maintain organized, compliant case files consistent with Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct

What We're Looking For:
  • Active Missouri Bar license in good standing (required)
  • 3–5 years of civil litigation experience
  • Family law litigation experience strongly preferred
  • Strong legal writing, oral advocacy, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently while working well within a team
  • High emotional intelligence — especially important for family law matters involving clients under stress
  • Genuine interest in advocacy for underserved or overlooked clients, including civil rights and public-entity litigation
  • Based in or willing to work from Springfield, MO, with willingness to serve clients across the broader Southwest and Central Missouri region

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with practice management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase)
  • Prior experience in a fast-growing or entrepreneurial firm environment
  • Interest in eventually developing an origination or partnership track

Growth Path

This is a firm building deliberately toward regional market leadership, and it is looking for an attorney who wants to grow with it. The right candidate can expect structured onboarding and mentoring, trial skills development, and a genuine path toward business development coaching and future partnership — not just a job, but a long-term professional home.
