Client-Focused Attorney Role

Rutkowski Law Firm is seeking a Lead Estate Planning & Elder Law Attorney to join our dynamic, client-first team. This is a client-facing leadership role ideal for an experienced attorney who thrives on solving complex problems with empathy and creativity.

You'll step into a well-established firm with proven systems, full support staff, and a founder who is transitioning out of daily practice but available to mentor and guide. This role offers the unique opportunity to take ownership of a practice area, work directly with families across Michigan, and help lead the next chapter of our firm's growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead client consultations to design and present estate plans and Medicaid strategies that align with clients' personal and financial goals
  • Provide legal counsel on estate planning, asset protection, long-term care planning, and eligibility for Medicaid and other government benefits
  • Oversee plan implementation, collaborating with paralegals and funding coordinators to ensure all legal and administrative steps are completed
  • Build strong client relationships by delivering empathetic, solutions-focused service from consultation to completion
  • Contribute to internal process improvement — bringing ideas and feedback to enhance client experience, legal systems, and team workflows
  • Stay current on Michigan law and emerging strategies in estate planning, elder law, and public benefits
  • Mentor and support team members, including legal assistants and junior staff, as needed
  • Participate in firm-wide meetings, training, and leadership discussions to help drive innovation and growth

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan and in good standing with the State Bar
  • 3+ years of experience in estate planning, elder law, or related legal practice
  • Proven ability to confidently lead client meetings and explain complex legal concepts with clarity and compassion
  • Strong working knowledge of estate planning tools (revocable/irrevocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney, etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A solutions-focused mindset with a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in person in Troy, Rochester, and Bloomfield Hills offices, as needed for client meetings
  • Commitment to upholding our core values, including empathy, teamwork, growth, and a “don't act like an attorney” approach to client care

Preferred:
  • Experience with Medicaid planning and public benefits eligibility in Michigan
  • Familiarity with Lawmatics, WealthCounsel, or other legal tech platforms
  • Prior experience leading a legal team or mentoring junior staff
  • Experience working in a systems-driven law firm or using process-based legal workflows
  • Interest in firm leadership or practice ownership over time
