Baron Family Law is expanding its estate planning practice and is seeking an experienced California Estate Planning Attorney with strong estate plan design, drafting, and client counseling skills.
This role is focused on helping California clients protect their families, assets, and legacies through thoughtful, accurate, customized estate planning.
This is not a probate-focused position. Our priority is estate planning, drafting, execution, trust funding, and client counseling.
The position may be fully remote within California. Attorneys who prefer a hybrid schedule may also work through our Sacramento or Beverly Hills offices.
About the Opportunity:
Compensation:
Base salary: $100,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, substantive drafting ability, WealthCounsel experience, and the level of estate planning work the attorney can independently manage.
The position will also be eligible for a separate estate-planning performance incentive program based on practice performance and individual contribution.
Unlike our litigation attorney compensation model, estate planning incentives will not be based primarily on billable hours.

- Baron Family Law is intentionally building estate planning into a meaningful statewide practice area.
- Our initial focus is on straightforward to moderately complex flat-fee estate planning matters, with room to grow into more sophisticated planning as the practice expands.
- The attorney joining us should be able to independently counsel clients, identify planning issues, develop appropriate strategies, and translate those strategies into technically sound estate planning documents.
- This is more than a document-production role.
- We are looking for someone who combines strong legal judgment and drafting skills with an interest in helping build a modern, systems-driven estate planning practice.

Current matters are expected to be primarily straightforward to moderately complex flat-fee estate plans.
This is not a traditional hourly production role, and it does not use Baron Family Law's family-law billable-hour production model.
Performance will focus on the quality and accuracy of legal work, client experience, matter completion, responsiveness, practice growth, and the financial health of the estate planning practice.
More Complex Planning

We do expect excellent issue spotting, careful research, strong judgment, and an understanding of when specialized tax, financial, or other professional guidance is appropriate.

You will independently design, draft, review, revise, and finalize estate planning documents, including:

New Law Business Model and Client Experience
Baron Family Law is developing its estate planning practice using principles and systems associated with the New Law Business Model, including structured planning conversations, strong client education, proactive communication, documented follow-through, and a high-touch client experience.
Prior experience with the New Law Business Model is a plus, but is not required.

- Meet directly with clients to understand their family structure, assets, concerns, goals, and legacy objectives.
- Identify estate planning needs and recommend appropriate California planning strategies.
- Explain legal concepts clearly so clients can make informed decisions.
- Counsel clients regarding trusts, wills, incapacity planning, beneficiary designations, asset ownership, trust funding, and related planning considerations.
- Identify issues involving community property, separate property, blended families, minor children, real property, businesses, retirement accounts, and other assets.
- Recognize when a matter requires collaboration with a CPA, financial advisor, tax professional, business attorney, or other specialist.
Estate Plan Design and Drafting
A significant part of this position is substantive drafting.
You will independently design, draft, review, revise, and finalize estate planning documents, including:
- Revocable living trusts.
- Wills and pour-over wills.
- Durable powers of attorney.
- Advance health care directives.
- HIPAA authorizations and related incapacity documents.
- Guardianship nominations.
- Certifications or abstracts of trust.
- General assignments of assets.
- Trust transfer deeds and related real-property documents.
- Trust funding instructions.
- Amendments and restatements.
- Other documents necessary to implement a client's estate planning strategy.
You will be responsible for ensuring that every estate plan is legally accurate, internally consistent, complete, and aligned with the client's objectives.

Baron Family Law is developing its estate planning practice using principles and systems associated with the New Law Business Model, including structured planning conversations, strong client education, proactive communication, documented follow-through, and a high-touch client experience.
Prior experience with the New Law Business Model is a plus, but is not required.
The attorney should be comfortable:
- Following structured estate planning workflows.
- Conducting substantive planning sessions.
- Educating clients about their options before asking them to make decisions.
- Moving matters forward proactively.
- Documenting planning decisions clearly.
- Delivering a consistent client experience from initial planning through signing and funding.
- Helping improve SOPs, templates, checklists, and client-facing materials.
- Working within a flat-fee estate planning model.
Execution and Trust Funding
- Prepare clients for signing and execution.
- Review final documents with clients and answer questions.
- Ensure execution requirements are followed correctly.
